Post a minimum of 3 project proposals to your blogs and to the KC digital arts website. You will later reduce these down to 1. Try to reflect in your proposals the range of design applications that we have discussed in the seminars so far. For example propose at least one work where you would immerse the viewer in a physical environment, one in which you would model up a scenario in order to understand an outcome of an action (e.g. the explosion). For each proposal state clearly how, where, and for whom it would be used. Also mention any artworks or design ‘objects’ that may have got you interested in the proposed works.
You have 2 weeks for this so the level of detail you put in your proposals should reflect this.

1. “Hologram” (not exactly) – My idea is related with how people simulate in public places and how they implant into others curtain perception about their personality through the outfit. I am planning to make a video piece of a girl, in full size, who changes her outfits. Might play around with the age difference as well but have to develop my conception of how exactly I want the video will look like. As to make a real hologram will require lots of time and a lot of money I found a clever solution while watching last year’s student pieces. Will use a cloth which will go from the ceiling to the floor and onto it I am going to project the video. It will create the impression of a real person that exists in the certain space. My expectation is the viewers to be confused but in the same time curious.
2. Camera Obscura – I am thinking to build up a small cubic space similar to room in a gallery and put a small whole into the wall facing towards the viewers in order to create camera obscura. The effect will be the on the walls inside the cube the viewer will be able to see the same space they are into but upside down which will create a confusion of their apprehension.
3. Room Installation – Thinking further on the idea about camera obscura I came up with something that sounds quite appealing to me. My idea is about a box room turned upside down. By upside down I have in mind that furniture (table, chairs etc.) will be coming from the ceiling and there will be floating objects in the space (will use just a simple thread so they look as if they are floating in the space). The simulation will be of how a room with no gravity could look like.

1 Virtual club
My first idea for design for simulation was to create a virtual club where you stand on a sub with you being enclosed in a box watching a live set of say tiesto with headphones.
People joining online with thousands in there homes would use it. People could enjoy the night with out any trouble or people who cant handle their drink roughening it for you. Club nights would be advertised on the Internet. It would be useful for police as there would be no trouble at the end of the night to deal with. There would be hardly any cost the venue organizers, so the ticket prices will be cheaper. Clubbers wouldn’t have to travel large distances to get to an event abroad. Also there will be no bouncers telling you cant come in because you’re not warring the right shoes, you could ware what you like.
I rejected this idea because when I presented this idea to nick and he said there is not much substance in the idea towards an artistic frame of mind, which I have to come to agree with.
This idea slightly evolved over the weeks following while talking over ideas with friends and nick. I came up with filming in and outside a club when it’s closed and only showing that. When it comes to opening time the video stops depriving the viewer of the good bit of the club
2 Icons
The idea is to have an icon on a plinth and a picture of a cross on screen. The idea came from a lesson I had were we talked about the cross being a representative of Christ. The idea of there being a representative of someone else in the class, like a class rep. the cross being a representative of Christ and not the real thing and in the Orthodox Church we use icons. Icons are used by all orthodox families like photographs of portraits of relatives in their homes and churches. There was a lot of controversy over the icons when they were first introduced in 787. The persecution of those who venerated icons was not simply heretical, but it blasphemously interfered with the prayer and the spiritual life of devout Christian people. In St Paul’s letter to Titus, he denounces ‘stupid controversies, genealogies, dissensions and quarrels’ that are ‘unprofitable and futile’. (St Paul’s press. 17th Oct 2010)
3 Shadows
I thought of filming the shadows out side a club so the viewer can here the music from the club but only see the shadows from the clubbers on the floor.
My idea is to show in the video a simulation of depravity (deprived) not allowed to have something, filming shadows instead of reality (Plato’s cave). I’m going to try and make the viewer anxious, annoyed or frustrated. So I’m going to film things that make the audience want to know what’s going on but wont show them, only show the shadows.
As I don’t drink I just watched people recently on a night out and it got me thinking about my idea more, sad I know. Got me thinking about the bad side to drinking, alcohol abuse and the carnage that is left after the club closes and the people that have to sort it out. The government are going to try and cut 20% of our police force, that’s about 60,000 people. At any one time there is about 12 police on duty in the hole of Merton and they’re the ones that have to sort out the dickheads that can’t handle their drink. I don’t mind alcohol on its own its fine, if not good for you to have a drink or two but too much is really bad for you in so many ways. I don’t mind clubbing, but too many clubs prefer you to drink, as you’re less likely to realise how bad the club is. You shouldn’t need to drink in a good club. The government is happy to get the money from alcohol, I think you would be surprised how much they do, but they don’t want to tidy up after them selves.
So the idea of me filming the queers out side a club has moved slightly to simulating the effects of alcohol on clubbers filming shadows and not the actual clubbers as they leave the clubs, also depriving the viewer of what’s actually going on. Getting scenes of shadows fighting, being sick and so and so forth. Showing the other side to drinking. It would be used by ether the police force to show the government that there is a need for change and their needs to be police, or the government to show the bad side to drink.
The simulation is the video. The representation would be the set up of booth with the screen that the viewer will be in and the screen in front of the viewer. I will accompany this with immersive headphones to try and make the viewer feel trapped. I hope to also have a light shining on the booth, which would be a representation. So as the viewer leaves they will become blinded by the light maybe dazed and confused, which would be again the simulation, referencing to Plato’s cave.

1. Expressions/ faces – There will be a total of three real faces of different people these will be real faces projected onto a fake manikin head, they will be faced in towards each other, and these faces will make different expressions and have a conversation with each other. Allowing the user to walk between them and interact with them by listening and watching these faces talk to one another. These could be displayed in a gallery as long as there is a projector for each of the manikin’s faces this would be mainly aimed at the younger adult as the conversation will be around what is happing at the time. I got the idea from watching Texas big face where they super impose a real face onto a statue of a U.S president and onto another person wearing a mask.
2. Senses – Visual –In a dark room is a box which the viewer would put their head into the gap, inside the box it is a light and bright sky with the light representing the sun as the light will generate the warmth, so the user sees and feels the warmth and brightness of the day but when they leave they enter a dark room. This affects the visual and felling senses of the mind confusing the viewer into thinking they are somewhere else. This would mainly be aimed at a younger range of viewer’s manly kids as they will be more believed by it. I thought of it as this would immerse the viewer complete.
3. Shadows – Using the concept of Plato’s cave where he talks about the shadows on the cave wall and that is what they believe is real. This would work with a screen in front of the viewer where they would see a shadow of an object go across the screen, but if you was to turn around as you see the shadow and look at the object creating the shadow it would not what it appears to be, for instance it could be a coke can which is projecting a image of a small building onto the screen. So unless the viewer turn around that’s what they believe is what they will see. This would also be aimed at the young adult market as the younger generation might not understand the concept, I got the idea for this from reading Plato and the cave but there is also Tim Noble and Sue Webster who created shadow pieces where they piled rubbish together and put light on the pile and this created portraits of people on the wall.
