will the security guard worry about it not being in the lanyard rather than the ID it self?- yes

start a thread – it could even be in the comments on this post or set up a new site and register

then every time you are asked about your ID grab your phone take a smiling picture of the lovely security guard (you may need a wide angle lense) then post it with a little description and quote – date time what he said, your obsequiously grovelling apology – just short and sweet

perhaps even search out these events of joy – deliberately take the id out of the lanyard, or why not make a fake (hand drawn?) id and stick it on top of your id and enjoy their reaction (don’t forget to get those pictures), or even if you have your id spend a few weeks not using it, instead ring the buzzer everytime you go in and out just document it each time

or for maximum fun why not remove the rfid chip and aerial from teh card and mount it in ….. a harry potter wand, a jesus action figure, an oyster card or anything
