FRANCIS ALYS

Alÿs’s work starts with a simple action, either by him or others, which is then documented in a range of media. Alÿs explores subjects such as modernising programmes in Latin America and border zones in areas of conflict, often asking about the relevance of poetic acts in politicised situations. He has used video projection and film but also spreads his ideas through postcards. Painting and drawing remain central to his work too.

EXPOSED

Exposed offers a fascinating look at pictures made on the sly, without the explicit permission of the people depicted. With photographs from the late nineteenth century to present day, the pictures present a shocking, illuminating and witty perspective on iconic and taboo subjects.

in other words why not consider getting some of your work submitted to competitions like this,

or plan to collaborate on an external project over the summer to submit later.

the Animals are Out

securedownload.jpeg brick lane

I saw these paintings and thought it worth sharing, especially in regard to the visual studies module.

Yet another fascinating street artist working and adapting to the urban landscape.

ROA currently has a solo show at the PURE EVIL gallery in London.

Well worth a checking out in person!

Perch

28/02/2010

201002281827.jpg

I showed Perch to year 3 students a couple of weeks ago – it is a really cool bit of software

I’m just working on a personal site with it to really test it out but suffice to say it is REALLY clever

well via Twitter they have just announced a 20% discount with the the code MARCHHARE for (I assume) march only – this means £28 rather than £35 (+VAT) – I think it might be just the solution for lots of you

with a (little) bit of code you will be able to use it as a blog, a gallery, a website and more – it’s standards based, it’s from the UK, it has cool little animated birds, great video tutorials – what is there not to like?

go but it and use it for your PP module

if you haven’t seen it go have a look here and watch the video on the front page

http://grabaperch.com/

ps. check their forum – it is using bbPress, the forum counterpart to wordpress – you can integrate the two for single sign on as well

yr2 – character modelling

18/02/2010

201002180747.jpg

more modelling practice today – more human characters – when you are comfortable with low poly meshes, try it again but within a hyper nurbs – keep it low poly!!

before next week I need you to have completed a range of characters – human, the chicken/cow in folder 144, etc

you need to be comfortable blocking out models – lo res at this stage, they just need to be 99% four sided polygon and in some way flow over the surface – the polygons should follow the structure of the body in some sense

don’t worry if you get stuck and in a mess – these are meant to be quick – just save then start another one

practice practice practice

at this stage seeing how it went in the lesson today do not use a hyperNurbs at all – we will address this when the base polygons are right

have a go at the above characters, and the mr city men by eric lerner http://www.ericlerner.com/mrcitymen/mrcitymen.html

make sure you have lots to show next week

have fun

a new set of character box modelling video tutorials are now available in folder 001 > boxmodelling Iva
